Kristen Stewart Covers W Magazine, Talks Wedding Dress
From Bella Swan to ’60s bombshell – Twilight star Kristen Stewart lands on the cover of W magazine’s September issue, on newsstands August 23.
With high-volume hair and dolly bird makeup, she looks every bit the femme fatale.
As her film phenomenon continues with Breaking Dawn Part One, due out in November, the actress comes into her own with a tough-yet-tender photo shoot by Mert Alas and Marcus Piggott.
W’s fashion and style director Edward Enninful tells FashionEtc that Stewart was more than ready to step into a glamorous gown.
“She is a young actress on the brink of adulthood and she wanted the styling, hair and makeup direction to reflect that,” he says. “What we see is Kristen grown up, chic and confident in her femininity.”
On the cover, this translates to a fuzzy, touch-me, pale pink Max Mara sweater and swooping eyeliner. Inside, she slips into a Gucci dress with a blood-red flourish at the neck (the same one Beyoncé wears for her September cover turn), then a Junya Watanabe leather biker jacket with a glimpse of a Dolce & Gabbana bodysuit beneath.
In the accompanying interview, Stewart explains that she is still grappling with her feminine side.
“I have brothers, and that so-called boyish quality was something that I was deathly self-conscious about when I was younger. I was, like, No, I’m a girl. Actually, I’m still embarrassed to say that,” she admits.
In one crucial way, though, Stewart shares a classic girlish taste. “I f—ing love me a vampire,” she laughs. “Vampires are a little dangerous—and we girls like to test ourselves.”
The shy star also describes the excitement of getting her wedding dress for the upcoming film’s marriage scene.
“This was my first wedding. It was insane,” she tells W. “The wedding dress experience was a huge deal. I tried on one version of the dress, and it was like tweak and tweak and alter and tweak and change, and then it’s done.” Surely many a bride would empathize.
